300 was the first of a group of 10 cars purchased from Springfield MA in June 1940. In Springfield it was numbered 554 and was built by Wason Car Co in 1927. These cars were heavily rebuilt by Perley Thomas on release to Birmingham. Rebuilding included a left hand side door arrangement, unique for single ended Peter Witt cars in the United States. This was necessary for use on the 6 (Pratt Ensley) line that paralleled a railroad track much of the way. Photo taken March 17 1949 at 17th and Ave E in Ensley
