Broadway marked the junction of the Dixwell Ave and Whalley Ave lines -- Edgewood Ave (until October 1936) came in on Elm St and joined the Broadway lines at York St. The Shelton Ave line used Dixwell Ave to get to Shelton Ave. The Yale campus is primarily between York and College Sts -- at the time of the photo, the only Yale building near 1183 was the Payne Whitney Gym. 1183 was an ex-Bridgeport car that came to New Haven in 1934.
