1504 and 1503 undergoing testing on July 30 1971 just after delivery from the St. Louis Car on the lead track into the south end of the IC Woodcrest Shop in Homewood.
After Metra purchased the IC suburban service, the Woodcrest suburban facilities were leased until the completion of the Metra KYD Shop at 127th Street in Chicago.
The overhead and catenary poles were removed, however the trackage remains for use by the IC for access to the south end of the shop.
In the background are the 1920 Pullman MU cars in the shop for maintenance. The Highliners were received over a two year period and gradually phased into service gradually replacing the old cars.
The final 15-20 old cars were not replaced until the second group of 25 Highliners were received from Bombardier in 1976.
