62 on the D line at W 5th St and Beaudry on July 29 1947 -- the photographer is looking south.
Outside the downtown area, there were very few raised safety zone platforms.
As has been so evident in these photos, safety zones (thats what they were called) were usually just painted on the street, and drivers had enough sense to avoid driving through them.
5th and 6th used to come together differently in the old days. That whole area was decimated by the freeway construction, new bridges built, and the destruction of otherwise decent buildings.
The car has come off 6th St. eastbound and turned north on Beaudry, where it went to 5th and then turned east again.
