521 at 43rd St and Avalon. One block in the background is the (other) world-famed Wrigley Field, home of the Los Angeles Angels of the Pacific Coast League. It was obviously so named because of the relationship of the Angels with the Cubs. There was, of course, one significant difference -- the Angels WON. I even saw Satchel Paige pitch a game at Wrigley, and I took an S car to get there.
Gene Autry brought the major league Angels to LA, and they played in Wrigley Field for a year or two, before abandoning the poorer section of town for other climes. LA's Wrigley Field is long gone, but it was one helluva ballpark, much better than that funky old Gilmore Stadium used by the Hollywood Stars.
And before you move on, understand this: The Pacific Coast League was (mostly) as as good as the National and American Leagues. Only teams like Sacramento screwed up what otherwise was a major league quality group.
