1317 on the R line at Westlake Park. There was an extended and bitter strike against the Transit Lines by the Amalgamated in the mid-1950s.
The day the strike was settled, Ray Ballash (another OET founder) and I went looking around the system to see if there was any activity.
It was at this very spot, late at night, that we found LATL 9310, the rail grinder, working to clean the line for the resumption of service the next day.
What a wondrous sight, and neither of us had a camera. The memory is still embedded in the cranium, however.
