1402 on the H line dogleg in 1947. The car is eastbound just entering the private right-of-way. The slide says Los Angeles Transit Lines, but the colors scream LOS ANGELES RAILWAY. This picture gives a good idea of the overhang of the cars on turns (you can imagine if it were a really sharp one) and also of how large the cars seemed relative to the track gauge. Besides LARy, the only other systems I remember as having had 3 foot 6 inch gauge were in Portland and Denver. For those unfortunate enough not to have seen European traction or narrow gauge systems, the gauge is close to meter gauge (why the cars were able to go to Korea without much work on the trucks). Many of the cars that did not go to Korea or to the Terminal Island scrap pile were unceremoniously dumped into the sea off Redondo Beach, to stimulate coral and fish growth.
