1402 on the S line at Western and Santa Monica on June 13 1947. At one time, this was a major transfer point.
The PE Santa Monica Boulevard lines and the San Fernando Valley line crossed on Santa Monica Blvd, in the background, and the PE Western-Franklin city line continued up Western from here.
By this time though, the Western-Franklin cars were long gone, replaced by bilious belching busses sacrilegiously painted PE red.
I saw my first of these red, gutter liner, abominations quite near the terminus of the 5 Lline on Colorado St.
My grandfather couldnt explain to the five year old me why they were painted like our beloved PE cars.
