San Diego Electric Railway
#414 headed west bound on
Broadway at 5th on its way to Union Depot. The pantograph platforms were
never removed from these cars with the exception of car #405, which was
involved in the worst accident in SDERY history. A head-on collision in
the fog on the Mission Beach-La Jolla line where one operator ran by a
signal he did not see and died as a result of injuries several days later.
No passengers were more than slightly hurt. The pantograph platform
was on the damaged end and was removed in the re-building.
