153 was built by American Car Co in 1918 as one of the 143-167 series Birney Cars. It was a single-ended car. The Brill 78M1B trucks lacked heavy duty springs.
During rush hours, with a heavy load, the car wheels rubbed on the bottom of the car flooring. It was said locally in Seattle that the floors were "too hot to stand on" due to the friction heat.
I believe the photo is taken at the Jefferson State carhouse, possibly in the early 1920's.
