1224 (ex-Richmond [Staten Island] Railways 424, purchased 1933) bought for service in the Bronx.
This photo was taken by Alfred Seibel early in the morning at 242nd St and White Plains prior to the long run to 149th St and Melrose Ave, the longest line in the Bronx. The "Staten Island 12's" were among the most popular cars on the Third Ave System.
Because these cars had wide (i.e. not tapered) platforms, they could not negotiate many turns and were used almost exclusively on the Webster and White Plains (W) line, locally referred to as "The Racetrack."
