The Metro A-Line runs from downtown Los Angeles to downtown Long Beach, and about 90% of it's route is along the old Pacific Electric right of way, which ran from 1902 until (under the yesteryear LAMTA) it was discontinued in April 1961.
Here's a circa 1996 A-Line (then Blue Line) train at Willow Station, at the southern end of the private right-of-way, and the beginning of street running in Long Beach
There is one very interesting thing here which, unless you know to look for it, you may not notice...... Look closely at the end of the roof of the platform.
Notice the shape and design. It appears to be a circle with a winged type design. This is a very subtle design feature, but it is a tribute to the Pacific Electric Railway. This was the same "butterfly" design that was featured on most of the PE trains (the circle being the headlight on the end of the train!).
This design is on most of the Long Beach MTA Blue Line stations and its design was suggested by the Electric Railway Historical Association of Southern California.
