The Illinois Traction System stretched from St Louis MO in the south, to Danville in the east, Peoria and Bloomington in the north, going thru Springfield, Decatur and Champaign-Urbana.

The plan was to connect another portion of the ITS which stretched from Joliet to Princeton to the southern portion, making an electric interurban connection between Chicago and St Louis. It was not to be.

The electric portion of the IT continued until June 1958, and the diesel era continued until 1982. This webpage is primarily composed of photos of the electric operation
