Second Avenue Railway
Car # 52, a convertible
in closed configuration, is actually a car owned and in operation on the
SECOND AVENUE RAILROAD Company who ran two major lines; Second Avenue and
First Avenue in Manhatttan. The car shown was originally owned by the METROPOLITAN
STREET RAILWAY and passed over to the Second Avenue when the Metropolitan
fell apart in 1908 and was virtually dismembered. The car was rebuilt to
convertible format along with many other similar cars and this type was
the mainstay of the Second Avenue's operation.
