Manhattan
Metropolitan Street Railway
#8 in a Brill builders photo.
This picture is proof that packages and freight was carried by streetcar
in Manhattan. Some Dept. stores had a siding for this service but it didn't
last long as electric battery trucks with solid rubber tires with greater
flexibility soon took over and these freight cars were sold off. A few
builders photos exist but I never saw a pic of one on the street. Old timers
with very long memories said that they ran only at night.
