Los Angeles
Blue Line
The modern day (circa 1996)
Los Angeles County
Metropolitan Transportation
Authority's Blue Line train. The Blue Line runs from downtown LA
downtown to Long Beach, along most of PE's original route.
This photo was taken at
the Willow Station, which is the southern end of the private right-of-way,
and the beginning of street running through downtown Long Beach.
There is one very interesting
thing here which, unless you know to look for it, you may not notice......
Look closely at the end of the roof of the platform. Notice the shape
and design. It appears to be a circle with a winged type design.
This is a very subtle design feature, but it is a tribute to the Pacific
Electric Railway. This was the same "butterfly" design that was featured
on most of the PE trains (the circle being the headlight on the end of
the train!). This design is on most of the Long Beach MTA Blue Line
stations. The design was suggested by the Electrical Railway Historical
Association of Southern California.
