Camden
Camden & Trenton
On December 31, 1904, the
New York-Philadelphia Company was chartered. This new company, owned by
Stern and Silverman, railway construction capitalists, purchased control
of the Camden and Trenton Railway and the Trenton and New Brunswick Railroad
early in 1905 In February 1906, seven double-truck closed cars were
ordered from the John Stephenson Company, Elizabeth, New Jersey. The new
cars, 45 feet, 4 inches in length, were equipped with smoking compartments
and were placed in service in June. The arrival of the new cars permitted
the retirement of the "Duplex" convertibles, which apparently had not been
entirely satisfactory in winter service.
