The "black" cars
Henderson Street Yard
in Jersey City, closed by PATH after it built its new shops in Harrison.
The stucco building with the signal tower was the two-track Inspection
Barn. The tower controlled the junctions south of the Eire station
(now Pavonia/Newport) and east of the Grove-Henderson Street station (now
Grove), the scissors crossover located immediately west of the latter station,
the spiralled "Y" tunnel that led up into the yard, and powered turnouts
in the yard. All of this can be seen on Henry T. Raudenbush's track
map of the H&M, published by the Electric Railroaders' Association
in the 1950s.
