Jamestown
Chautaqua Traction Co.
"Chautaqua" was and
possibly still is, a religious camp ground on the west side of Chautaqua
Lake, hosting practically year round tent revival meetings. The trolley
line was built to haul the folks to meeting before they all reaped the
bounties of the automobile age. The Chautaqua Traction went up the
west side of the lake between Jamestown and Westfield while the faster
and shorter Jamestown, Westfield and Northwestern went up the east side.
The JWNW outlasted the other by several years.
