Rochester, Syracuse & Eastern
Postcard view of Clyde NY station
Rochester Syracuse & Eastern was built between 1906 and  1909.  87 miles , all third rail, no grade crossings at all except with one railroad.
It paralelled the NY Central the whole distance.. Because it was in
financial hot water in 1913, it was merged with two other Beebe
Syndicate interurbans, (Syracuse Lake Shore & Northern and the Auburn & Northern) and renamed the Empire United Railways (also known as Empire State Railroad).  In 1915 this outfit fell apart financiall so in 1916 it was broken up into smaller operations.  In 1917 the RS&E became the Rochester & Syracuse, went broke in 1930 and was abandoned on  June 27, 1931. The road was noted for high speed service during the 1920s with rebuilt luxurious cars and used the Rochester Subway tracks in that city.
