The car is lettered "S" for Sugar Notch route, which was abandoned August
6, 1946.
Philadelphia Railways was
presented with a fleet of 30 cars by the emergency fleet corporation, a
government agency. The cars were being built for Southern States
Power Company properties by J. G. Brill in Philadelphis. They were
seized for WWI war service.
When the war ended, the
Philadelphia system could not afford to buy them so they were sold. Wilkes-Barre
had 14 of them, and Atlantic City had 10.
