Delivered fully equipped for interurban service on November 30 1948, All-Electric PCC 1700 had the pilot removed and replaced with a lifeguard for public relations operations on 22 Crosstown to show the car to the public. The car awaits leaving time at the North Side terminal on North Ave east of Federal. After the other interurban cars began arriving, the 1700 was re-equipped for interurban service early in 1949.
