An early postcard shows one of the original observation cars most likely 2 because that car had this type of trucks. Built in 1906, 2 followed the design of the earlier 1, which went into service in 1905. Both cars were built by the Montreal Street Railway Company at their Hochelaga shops. They operated during the summer months on a 10-mile trip around Montreal's namesake Mount Royal. The route followed the Montreal Street Railway-controlled Montreal Park & Island Railway's belt line. They were very successful and well received. The MSR and MP&I were reorganized in 1911 as the Montreal Tramways Company. The MTC built two other observation cars (3 and 4) at their new Youville Shops. The newer cars went into service in 1924.
