Canton
Illinois Central Electric
Railway
The scene shows The Illinois
Central Electric Railway (note the initials on the gas car - "T.I.C.E.Ry.")
gasoline motor car #3 pulling an old horsecar trailer on South Main Street
in Canton, Illinois on August 3, 1907. The railway when first opened
used gasoline motor cars, but eventually converted to electrically operated
interurbans because the gas motor cars were undependable and underpowered
for the service they were providing.
