Kewanee
Galesburg & Kewanee
Electric Railway
The G&K was originally
intended to build an interurban line between the named cities in Illinois
and to provide local streetcar service in Kewanee. The local lines
in Kewanee were constructed first, after which the interurban line was
started southwest towards Galesburg. However, the interurban only
got to Galva, about 7 miles from Kewanee (the fullest extent of the line);
the interurban was operated as the Kewanee & Galva Electric Railway.
The system stopped all service in about 1923 because of financial problems
and poor trackage in Kewanee.
