Ex-South Shore 28 was built by Standard Steel Car in 1929 and later heavily rebuilt in the South Shore Michigan City Shops.
During rebuilding the car was lengthened by nearly 20 feet, and sealed windows and air-conditioning were added.
After it was retired in 1984 it was acquired by The Wisconsin Electric Railway Historical Society in East Troy, which went defunct in 1989.
The car was then sold to the Illinois Railway Museum where it is shown on April 10 2004
